How I got here:
Dr. Robert Carroll is an award winning faculty and noted Executive Communication Coach and Strategist.
Currently he works as an Associate Professor at the University of Texas at Austin in the Moody College of Communication, with appointments in the McCombs School of Business and Cockrell School of Engineering.
In Spring 2026, Dr. Carroll received the prestigious Dad’s Association Centennial Teaching Fellowship which honored his work with freshman students as well as innovative instructional design and impactful student engagement. Previously he was honored with the 2026 McCombs Faculty Honor Roll and UT Tower Award for Best Community Engagement Course.
Dr. Carroll is also serving as the current chair of the Provost’s Teaching Fellows, which is a university wide program that honors innovative teaching and provides faculty with $15,000 in funds to develop and launch a program of their choosing.
As an Executive Communication Coach and Strategist, Dr. Carroll has worked with storied clients across all sectors around the globe.
Through his partnerships with Duarte, Inc., UT’s Extended Campus and Custom Training, as well as his own firm, Dr. Carroll has worked with clients such as Apple, Google, SanDisk, Marriott, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, USAA, University of Texas System, Texas Health and Human Services, and Texas Municipal Retirement System.
Although each engagement varies, there is always a thread of authentic communication and strategic storytelling. Clients consistently note his upbeat personality, engaging content, and practical outcomes.
In 2025, Dr. Carroll was the featured instructor for Ragan Communication on Improving Internal Communication, which was a 3-week intensive on strengthening the flow of communication within organizations.
Dr. Carroll received his Ph.D. in Interpersonal Communication from the University of Texas at Austin (UT) . Presently, he teaches courses on Intercultural Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Disaster and Crisis Communication, and Conflict Mediation. From 2021-2025 Dr. Carroll oversaw the Moody College Communication Foundations 2 Program that enrolled 5,000+ students during his tenure and managed a teaching team of 15+ assistants across 24+ sections each semester.
Prior to his work UT and beginning this consulting firm, he received his B.A. in Communication and M.A. in Higher Education from the University of Missouri. After graduating with his M.A., Robert worked full time as a Program Advisor at Temple University in Philadelphia and as an Academic Advisor at the University of Kansas. In those positions, Robert coached and advised students on many academic, personal, and professional issues including resumes and interview preparation. He also worked closely with students from all over the world and has a deep understanding and appreciation for varied cultures and identities. With this background he has begun teaching abroad, including in Copenhagen, Barcelona, and Florence. He also completed a course development and research trip to SE Asia in Summer 2024. As an avid traveller, Dr. Carroll has visited 45 countries.
